# Liverpool held by Nottingham Forest in thrilling FA Cup quarter-final ## Reds come from behind to draw 1-1 at the City Ground ### Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Nottingham Forest in a thrilling FA Cup quarter-final at the City Ground on Sunday. The Reds, who were looking to reach the semi-finals for the fourth time in five years, fell behind to a Taiwo Awoniyi goal in the 50th minute. But Liverpool hit back just five minutes later through Diogo Jota, who poked home from close range after a goalmouth scramble. Both sides had chances to win the game in the remaining 40 minutes, but neither could find a decisive goal. The result means that the tie will go to a replay at Anfield next month. ## How the match unfolded Liverpool started the match brightly and created a number of chances in the early stages. However, it was Forest who took the lead against the run of play, with Awoniyi scoring from close range after good work from Brennan Johnson. Liverpool responded well to going behind and equalised just five minutes later through Jota. The Reds continued to press for a winner, but Forest defended resolutely and limited Liverpool to few clear-cut chances. Forest had a good chance to win the game in the second half, but Johnson headed wide from a good position. In the end, the sides had to settle for a draw and the tie will go to a replay at Anfield next month. ## Reaction from the managers Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: "It was a difficult game, but I'm proud of the way my team responded to going behind. We showed great character and determination to come back and get a draw. "Forest are a good side and they made it very difficult for us. They defended well and they had a few good chances themselves. "But we never gave up and we deserved to get a draw in the end. "We'll now go back to Anfield and prepare for the replay. We know it will be a tough game, but we're confident that we can win it." Forest manager Steve Cooper said: "I'm very proud of my players. They played their hearts out today and they deserved to get a draw. "We knew it would be a difficult game, but we were well-organised and we made it very hard for Liverpool to break us down. "We had a few good chances ourselves and we could have even won the game. "But I'm happy with a draw and we'll now go back to the City Ground and prepare for the replay. "We know it will be a tough game, but we're confident that we can win it." ## What's next? Liverpool will now turn their attention back to the Premier League, with a home game against Manchester United on Tuesday. Forest will also be back in action on Tuesday, with a home game against Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.
