Sarah Sanderson Kid's Costume Sewing Pattern
What You'll Need
- 1 yard of black fabric
- 1/2 yard of purple fabric
- 1/4 yard of green fabric
- 1/4 yard of white fabric
- Black thread
- Purple thread
- Green thread
- White thread
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Iron and ironing board
Instructions
- Cut out the fabric pieces. Cut a rectangle of black fabric that is 36 inches long and 24 inches wide. This will be the body of the dress. Cut a trapezoid of purple fabric that is 24 inches long at the top, 30 inches long at the bottom, and 12 inches wide at the bottom. This will be the skirt of the dress. Cut a trapezoid of green fabric that is 12 inches long at the top, 18 inches long at the bottom, and 6 inches wide at the bottom. This will be the bodice of the dress. Cut two rectangles of white fabric that are 6 inches long and 4 inches wide. These will be the sleeves of the dress.
- Sew the skirt to the bodice. Align the top edge of the skirt with the bottom edge of the bodice, right sides together. Pin the two pieces together and sew them together with a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Press the seam open.
- Sew the sleeves to the bodice. Align the top edge of each sleeve with the shoulder seam of the bodice, right sides together. Pin the two pieces together and sew them together with a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Press the seams open.
- Hem the dress. Fold the bottom edge of the dress up by 1 inch and press. Fold the edge up by another 1 inch and press. Sew the hem in place with a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
- Add the finishing touches. Cut a piece of black fabric that is 1 inch wide and 36 inches long. This will be the belt. Sew the belt to the waist of the dress with a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Cut a piece of purple fabric that is 6 inches wide and 12 inches long. This will be the scarf. Sew the scarf to the neck of the dress with a 1/2-inch seam allowance.
