Vesey, Panarin Lead the Way
The New York Rangers began their quest for their first Stanley Cup in 30 years on Sunday with a 4-1 victory over the Washington Capitals in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.
Vesey and Panarin Shine
Jimmy Vesey and Artemi Panarin led the way for the Rangers, with Vesey scoring a goal and adding an assist and Panarin also scoring a goal.
Rempe Adds to the Lead
Matt Rempe added to the Rangers' lead in the second period, giving them a 3-0 advantage. The Capitals would eventually get on the board with a goal from Lars Eller, but the Rangers would seal the victory with an empty-net goal from Vesey.
Igor Shines in Net
Igor Shesterkin was solid in net for the Rangers, stopping 29 of the 30 shots he faced. Darcy Kuemper made 25 saves for the Capitals.
Game 2 on Tuesday
Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
The Rangers are looking to win their first Stanley Cup since 1994, while the Capitals are hoping to make a deep playoff run after winning the Cup in 2018.
